Pex pipe is a flexible stuff that is used for the construction of numerous different applications. This pipe is very flexible according to the other types of rigid plastic and metal pipes. This pipe is very light, supple and provide resistance from chlorine and prevention of scale formation and does not corrode or build up pinholes. It is better than other metals and rigid pipes in all cases ranging from installation process to other advantages. This pipe requires fewer connection settings and fittings and is very fast to install than those of stiff pipes.
PEX pipe is also known as cross linked polythene. This pipe is named as cross linked polythene because it is made from cross linked HDPE which stands for high density polythene polymer. This polymer is allowed to melt and then it is extruded into the tube and the cross linking is done out of various different methods.
The PEX piping are constructed to different CTS-OD sizes and the most common sizes that are available includes 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 5/8 and 1. This pipe is available with several extra sizes depending on the requirements. PEX pipe can be used in various applications where other types of rigid plastic and metal pipes cannot be installed. At the time of extrusion, the (HDPE) high density polythene polymer can be tinted to defer color coded pipes, depending on the type one wants. The pipes that are present in the normal colors include white, black, blue and red. These red and blue colors can help the user to distinguish between cold and hot water supplies.
The most important advantage of this pipe is that it can spin into spools for storage and shipping purpose, whereas rigid plastic and metal piping that has to be cut down into some length for shipping and storage purpose. A classic spool of PEX pipe of 1/2 inch can hold 1200 feet of tubing.
